Product Description

A ketogenic diet isn't something new that has been recently formulated; people have been on a ketogenic diet for virtually three million years in which our brains were nurtured and evolved. Now the human brain is not only shrinking, but brain atrophy is the norm as we age and get plagued with diseases such as dementia, Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease.
People mistakenly think that they need to eat less and exercise more to create a calorie deficit in order to lose weight. This is not how diet and exercise helps with weight loss. A well-formulated keto-adapted diet along with proper exercise builds muscle and muscle builds mitochondria. It is in the mitochondria where fat is oxidized so you can keep your cells and liver insulin sensitized. Weight loss and health is about healthy mitochondria and about controlling hormones and specifically insulin.
This is not a diet, it is a lifestyle. By eating this way, you will begin to heal your cells and will keep evolving your body into the happy and healthy person you want to be. This book is filled with the most impeccable nutrition information to fuel your cells. Maria's passion goes beyond explaining the 'why', she is a master in the kitchen and loves food. Her keto-adapted recipes at the end of the book tie all the nutrition together so you can become keto-adapted faster than ever.

Maria has written a great book for anyone looking for a guide to switching
from a carb diet to a fat diet. The book explores many problems that can arise,
it dispells myths and lays down the truth; we don't need carbs (at least not the
quality and quantity in which it's recommended to us). Good work.

READ THIS BOOK - IT WILL PROBABLY SAVE YOUR LIFE!, July 7, 2014
And no, I'm not exaggerating. I've already dropped a heap of weight (a third of the excess I was carrying) in ONE WEEK! More importantly though, I did it without starving myself - in fact I've felt satiated and content at all times. My moods have improved dramatically - no more witchy, angry, depressed, fault-finding with everything and everyone anymore. And this is just the beginning. I also did 20 push-ups on day twelve of this new lifestyle plan. FYI - I have not only never done more than 5 in a row, but I have never wanted to do 20 push-ups ever in my life!!

I know I'm going to be able to stick with this because Maria not only makes it such an inviting lifestyle option, she also explains in sufficient detail WHY doing it her way is a life saving option. And then there are her recipes.... prepare to salivate just turning the pages! (Some have complained about typos in the book - ignore this. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater people!) Am considering offering her my copy editing skills as a thank you for the hugely important work she is doing in our world!:-)

Read this book first, because it has such a comprehensive overview of everything. Then do yourself a favour and go out and buy the rest of them... and be sure to keep a close eye on your guests when they visit - the desire to make off with your precious Maria library will be too much for some of them to resist!

I am a 50 odd year old, menopausal woman, with all manner of health problems that I'm already waving goodbye to. Thanks to this life-altering book, I know I can look forward to a healthy rest-of-my-life. (I'm already feeling and looking better than I have in the last twenty years.) Buy this now and be prepared to change your life.

Disappointed, July 6, 2014
The book is a good read but it's a bit repetitive especially if you have Maria's other books or just follow her blog, like I do. This book helps understand the ketogenic diet and has some nice tips but I was hoping for a guide I could follow (sample meal plans) to get started, as that's what I expected from the advertising. I like the inspirational testimonials she has on every blog posting, but in the book it's overdone and makes me feel like it's there to fill out pages. I was going to recommend the book to family and friends but, after reading it, I feel like they'll be a bit weary of all the testimonials and won't focus on the useful info the book offers (albeit disorganized). Another thing - petty I know - that annoyed me, is that the book doesn't have an index. I wanted to like it more, especially since I've been a great fan of Maria for a while and often cook from her blog recipes. I also feel like I'm betraying Maria since she heavily influences my cooking and eating choices, and I'd love to help promote the great job she's been doing, but I was a bit disappointed and these are my sincere thoughts on THIS book.

I really enjoyed this book. It made sense and was easy to read. I enjoy her blog and FB page as well. Looking forward to working on some recipes in the book.

Paleo Taken to the Next Level, July 1, 2014
If you have eased your way from Atkins to Paleo in general to "The Perfect Health Diet" (PHD), then you are ready for this book. At least, it is food for thought. At best it will fine tune your health journey.

Jam packed with useful information, June 20, 2014
I happened upon this book after having gone down the keto path. A lot of what she explains is invaluable and she offered a better understanding of why and how this way of eating just makes sense on so many levels.

Sometimes it is difficult to explain to someone that I cannot have that piece of cake or cookie they're offering. Sometimes I would feel guilty or rude. However, after completing this gem of a book I will not longer feel that way. There is just too much at stake health-wise.

The biggest question people often ask me is what can one eat? Well included in the back of this book is a repertoire of delicious recipes that will make one wonder how they ever ate any other way. If you decide to read this book, whether you are on the fence or not, I believe you will enjoy it.
